Ferrotitani d'alta puresatambé conté impureses com alumini, silici, carboni, sofre, fòsfor i manganès. S'utilitza com a desoxidant, desulfurant, agent desgasificant i agent d'aliatge en la fabricació d'acer. S'afegeix a l'acer com a element d'aliatge durant el procés de fabricació d'acer per refinar els grans estructurals, fixar elements intersticials (C, N) i millorar la resistència de l'acer.
